Sunset Magazine names Oregon spots among best for food, wine

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Sunset Magazine recently released a list of places to sample the best food and wine in the west – naming two Oregon spots with “nuanced Pinot Noirs” and zero proof tastings.

The list includes winners from the Sunset Travel Awards, celebrating the best travel in the west.

According to Sunset, the list includes, “the most innovative and visually stimulating tasting rooms in a wide range of appellations.”

Earning a spot on the best in the west list: Oregon’s Soter Vineyards.

“Soter puts conservation front and center at its biodynamic Mineral Springs Ranch, where its nuanced Pinot Noirs and other varietals are served alongside an optional Provisions Tasting menu of foraged and locally sourced, seasonal ingredients: Think morels, favas, duck confit, and Oregon birch syrup. This Willamette Valley experience is a relaxed and celebratory combination of sustainability and luxury,” Sunset wrote.

Next on the list is Hood River’s mocktrail, a crawl with non-alcoholic drinks.

“The zero-alcohol artisanal beverage movement is thriving in Hood River in the heart of Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge,” Sunset said. “Drinkers who want maximum craft and flavor with zero ABV will find a “mocktrail” of makers, including Wilderton, the first non-alcoholic distillery, multiple kombucha companies, Good Medicine Tea, and Double Mountain Brewery offering housemade ginger ale and root beer.

The list also included Echolands Estate in Walla Walla, Washington.

“The striking new estate and winery produces wine from top Walla Walla fruit, boasts a tasting room cantilevered over Mill Creek, and offers spectacular views of the Blue Mountains. The abundant rain allows for dry farming, making this a sustainable and stylish must-visit addition to the region,” Sunset wrote.

Other top spots in the list include Bella Union Winery, Lede Vineyards, Far Niente Winery and Frank Family Vineyards in California’s Napa Valley, along with Séka Hills Tasting Room in Sacramento, California, Alma Rosa Winery in Santa Barbara, California and culinary trails in Vail, Colorado.
