FNF Best Chevrolet Best Player of the Week: Kenner Discovery’s Gemarr Hodges

KENNER, La. — In a 49-34 win over Jefferson Rise, Kenner Discovery Gemarr Hodges was best.

Hodges eclipsed 450 all-purpose yards.

He carried the rock 20 times for 324 yards, scoring 6 rushing touchdowns, and added 120 yards on four kick returns.

“What was working so well was the offensive line. They did a very good job of blocking for me and creating holes for me to run through, and giving me more opportunities to get more yards and score,” said Kenner Discovery senior Gemarr Hodges.

A position change set Gemarr up for success.

He spent the last two years as the Swamp Owls quarterback but made the unselfish move to running back his senior season.

“I’m willing to do anything to help my team win and to transition from quarterback to running back. I think it was just easier,” said Hodges.

“It’s very rare. I mean, you take a kid in his senior year, you know, you take him out of their comfort zone and you ask him to do something different. He’s willing to do something different. And it’s for a new head coach. So to come out of his comfort zone and have success and be willing to do it, that’s very rare, but it makes it a special thing that he’s done for this team,” said Kenner Discovery head coach Bryan Crayton.
