Youngsville Police warn of impersonation scam

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) — The scammers are at it again, this time in Youngsville.

Youngsville Police are warning residents on their Facebook page that someone posing as a Youngsville Police officer is calling people asking for money.

“The caller is using the name Officer Robert Michael, but we do not have anyone by that name working with our department,” the post read. “The scammer is also duplicating our department’s phone number: 337-856-5931.”

The department, or any other legitimate law enforcement agency, will never ask for money over the phone.

“Do not give out any personal information or money,” the post said. “Hang up immediately and report the call to the Youngsville Police Department. If you receive such a call, call us directly at 337-856-5931 to verify any concerns.”

The scam is a common one, having been reported previously in Lafayette, St. Martinville and Iberia Parish in the past.
