State police identified the victim as Sarah Stone, 23, of Madisonville.
According to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 444 and Acosta Lane. LSP said it involved a tow truck and a sedan.
According to LSP, a preliminary investigation showed that a 2002 Honda Civic, driven by Stone, was heading east on LA 444 near Acosta Lane. At the same time, a 2014 Peterbilt tow truck was going west on the same road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda didn’t make a right-hand curve, crossed the centerline, and crashed head-on into the tow truck.
Stone was wearing a seatbelt, but was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver was also wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries, state police said. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Northbound traffic was diverted to Jack Allen Road, while southbound traffic was redirected to Palmer Road.
The French Settlement Police Department was also at the scene. This is a developing story. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
