TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — A Taylorsville man has been arrested after his daughter came forth accusing him of rape, according to Taylorsville Police.

The man, 59, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim, was arrested early Thursday morning in Salt Lake County on one count of rape, a first-degree felony; and two counts of sexual assault, a third-degree felony.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, Taylorsville Police responded to a “late report sex offense”. Upon arrival, officers were notified that the juvenile victim had reported to a third party that she had been raped by her father.

Police learned that the victim had told her friend that her father had sexually assaulted her in Oct. 2024. The friend reportedly told their parents, who then called police. Police took the victim in for an interview, consistent with the Children Justice Center and the District Attorney’s Officer protocol.

During the interview, the victim told police that on or around Oct. 15, 2024, she had been having trouble sleeping and went to her parent’s room at around 2 a.m. to sleep in their bed. She told police that while lying in bed with her mother and father, her father began sexually assaulting her, and proceeded to rape her.

The victim told police that she “froze” and didn’t know what to do, according to court documents. She also told police that her mother had woken up and questioned her father as to what he was doing.

When confronted, the father said he was trying to have sex with his wife and did not know it was his daughter, according to the victim’s statement.

Police also learned that the victim had told her adult brother about the incident, and that the family had a meeting about it. When the victim and her brother confronted the father, he allegedly said he was sorry but that she needed to “get over it.”

The suspect was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on the aforementioned charges.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
