Sebastopol men arrested in Mollie Schefer homicide case: Santa Rosa PD

(KRON) — Two Sebastopol men were arrested in connection to the homicide of Mollie Schefer. The 47-year-old woman and her dog were shot to death inside Schefer’s Santa Rosa home on Cecilia Drive, police said.

Santa Rosa Police Department officers found Schefer’s body in a staircase leading up to the second floor of her home around 4:30 a.m. on September 9.

She had been shot twice in the chest, police said. In addition to the deceased dog, officers also found a second dog suffering from a gunshot wound that was still alive.

Officers were initially called to the victim’s house that morning because a neighbor heard several gunshots and called 911. Investigators found a shattered sliding glass door.

SRPD Violent Crimes Investigations Team detectives determined that a 2003 gold Lexus RX was “associated to the suspects in this homicide,” the police department wrote.

VCI detectives later connected two Sebastopol residents, 50-year-old Felix Carreon and 46-year-old Robert McConlogue, to the gold Lexus. “Detectives believe both men are responsible for the murder of Schefer,” SRPD wrote Thursday.

Six days after the killing, on September 15, detectives spotted Carreon driving a silver Honda Civic with McConlogue in the passenger seat. Carreon dropped McConlogue off in the area of Stony Point Road and Occidental Road.

One team of officers arrested McConlogue, while a second team followed and arrested Carreon.

Later that night, detectives served a search warrant at a residence where Carreon and McConlogue live on Burnside Road in Sebastopol. “Detectives seized clothing, electronic devices, and ammunition at this location. The firearm believed to have been used in this homicide was not located and remains outstanding,” SRPD wrote.

Carreon and McConlogue were booked into a Sonoma County jail on suspicion of homicide and conspiracy.

The police department did not release a motive behind Schefer’s slaying.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Fund for information that leads to the convictions of Schefer’s killers. SRPD is asking for video evidence that may assist in its case. Anyone with information is urged to contact the SRPD Violent Crime Investigations tip line at 707-543-3590.
