POND, Ala. –
The Holly Pond Broncos hosted the Vinemont Lady Eagles for a big area match on Dwayne Adams Court at Felton Easterwood Gymnasium Thursday night and the Broncos collected a big area win. Vinemont held a 1-0 lead after the first set, but Holly Pond rallied to win the next three sets to take the match 3-1. Holly Pond and Vinemont are now tied atop the Area 11 standings.

Holly Pond 3 – Vinemont 1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-19)

Vinemont jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead in the first set and quickly stretched their lead to 18-9. The Lady Eagles held a 21-11 lead late in the first set. Holly Pond, though, scored the next six points to cut it to 21-17. The Lady Broncos later made it 23-18, but Vinemont scored the final two points to take the opening set 25-18.

Vinemont got out to an early 4-1 lead in the second set and increased their lead to 7-3, but Holly Pond went on a 5-0 run to take an 8-7 lead. Both teams left everything out on the court in the second set, and neither team got out to a sizable lead after the Lady Eagles jumped out to the four-point lead earlier in the set. There would be eight ties, and more than a handful of lead changes throughout the second set. Vinemont held a slim 18-17 lead. Four straight points by the Lady Broncos, though, gave them the lead right back at 21-18. The Lady Eagles trimmed it to one at 23-22, but Holly Pond collected the final two points, as they ended up winning the second set 25-22.

Vinemont grabbed an early 7-3 lead in the third set. The Lady Broncos went on another huge run to take an 11-8 lead. The Lady Eagles cut it to 12-10, but they wouldn’t get any closer than that the rest of the set, as Holly Pond quickly pushed their lead to 18-11. Vinemont did make it a 20-14 game. The Lady Broncos, though, finished with a 5-2 run and ended up winning the third set 25-16.

The fourth set started out close, as both teams found themselves tied up at five. It didn’t take long for Holly Pond to break the tie, as they scored the next five points to take a 10-5 lead. The Lady Eagles countered with a 6-1 run, as that tied things up once again at 11. Vinemont would go up 15-13, but the Lady Broncos scored the next three points to get the lead right back at 16-15. Holly Pond widened their lead to 21-17 late in the set, and even though the Lady Eagles did cut it to 21-18, the Lady Broncos kept them at arm’s length the rest of the way, as they pulled away late to win the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
