Pennsylvania city receives $250k grant to bolster revitalization

The City of Reading and Green Building Alliance will receive $250,000 in grant funding from the Municipal Investment Fund to support the development and construction of smart infrastructure projects across the United States.

Reading was the only awardee in Pennsylvania and one of 50 applicants nationally.

“This grant is an important step forward in our work to make Reading stronger, more sustainable, and more affordable for everyone,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “By working with GBA, ICLEI, and our local partners, we’re giving businesses, schools, and neighborhoods the resources to modernize, save on energy costs, and prepare for the future.”

“We’re thrilled about this opportunity for the City of Reading,” said City of Reading Sustainability Manager Bethany Ayers-Fisher. “It reflects the values of our Sustainability Division and the City as a whole, and supports the Mayor’s vision for a stronger, more resilient Reading. This project will help us deepen partnerships and keep building a better Reading together.”

GBA, the city said, will develop an energy efficiency capital toolkit to guide commercial and institutional property managers through building resiliency projects.
