More than local news: Queen City News and Nexstar support 24 Foundation’s million-dollar impact in cancer fight

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — At Queen City News, community isn’t just a buzzword. It’s part of our mission. Alongside our parent company, Nexstar, we believe in doing more than just delivering the news. Whether it’s through volunteering or financial support, we’re committed to making a real difference in the communities we serve.

Each year, the Nexstar Charitable Foundation donates about $350,000 to charities and non-profits across the country. This year is no exception.

One local organization close to our hearts is the 24 Foundation, which puts on a variety of fun and inspiring events around Charlotte to support cancer patients and survivors. From the well-known 24 Hours of Booty bike ride, to Dam to Dam paddleboarding, and the 24,000 Meter Row, their events raise both awareness and funds.

Queen City News recently caught up with Katherine Murphy, Executive Director of the 24 Foundation, to talk about the organization’s impact. This year alone, 24 Hours of Booty raised over $1.7 million, bringing the foundation’s 24-year total to an incredible $31 million, all supporting cancer navigation and survivorship programs.

Up next for the foundation is a fall favorite: Bourbon for Booty, happening on November 1.

We’re incredibly thankful for partners like Levine Children’s Hospital, Levine Cancer Institute, and the 24 Foundation, whose work touches the lives of so many children, adults, and families. And a big thanks to the Nexstar Charitable Foundation for helping make this mission possible.

Queen City News and the Nexstar Media Group Charitable Foundation are pleased to announce a $2500 grant to the 24 Foundation, said Joe McGuire, Queen City News Vice President and General Manager.

Our team at Queen City News takes great pride in serving our communities not only by providing quality news and entertainment, but also through supporting our communities by volunteering our time and providing financial gifts to positively impact our neighborhoods.   This grant provided to the 24 Foundation will support their efforts to inspire and positively impact those affected by cancer.  They do tremendous work to increase the quality of life for cancer survivors and we are proud to stand with them in their efforts.

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Queen City News parent company, Nexstar Media Group, and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958, and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
