2 teens injured, 1 charged following Hopkinsville shooting

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) — An investigation is underway after two teenagers were shot in Hopkinsville Monday night, leading to the arrest of a minor.

The Hopkinsville Police Department said it responded to a report of a shooting at the James Village Apartments around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. Officers and detectives went to the scene of the incident, as well as Jennie Stuart Health to start their investigation.

According to authorities, one 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg and another 16-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder.

After conducting numerous interviews with witnesses and recovering video evidence, officials reported a 16-year-old boy had been charged with second-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a minor. Law enforcement announced on Thursday, Sept. 18, that the teen was being held at the McCracken County Juvenile Detention Facility.

“Although an arrest has been made, this remains an open investigation,” police wrote on Facebook. “The potential for additional arrests and/or additional charges for those involved remains a possibility.”

No additional details have been released about the circumstances surrounding the shooting or the resulting arrest.
