St. Martinville police chief says Iris Davis investigation still ongoing

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY) — Five people have been arrested in connection with the death of Iris Davis. St. Martinville Police Chief Ricky Martin says that’s not enough.

Martin issued a news release Thursday emphasizing that the investigation into the homicide is not complete.

“The St. Martinville Police Department, with the assistance of the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, is actively investigating the tragic murder of 16-year-old Iris Davis,” Martin said. “Your cooperation can play a vital role in bringing justice and closure to the family of Iris Davis.”

Davis was last seen at her residence July 13, and was reported missing once she stopped contacting her guardian July 17. Her body was found in a field near her residence on Maraist Street in St. Martinville July 21.

Desmond Flugence and Darren Francis were arrested and charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile, Dorian Savoy is charged with failure to report a homicide, and Savoy, Eugene Taylor and Grace Taylor are charged with contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. Grace Taylor is also charged with cruelty to a juvenile.

“We want to reassure the public that we are continuing to pursue this case and encourage anyone with information to come forward,” Martin said.
