Senator Rand Paul speaks on political temperature in Washington
In an interview with Eyewitness News, Senator Paul says that while political discourse is common on the internet, the vast majority of conversations he has experienced in Washington D.C. have been cordial.
“I would say most conversations in Washington are civil,” Senator Paul said. “What happens is Internet accentuates anger because it’s anonymous, and its just a cesspool of anger and people yelling at each other. No one is having a conversation on the internet, everyone is yelling at each other and I don’t know how to make it better. But I do know there have been Interviews that I’ve done, weather its a democrat or a republican together discussing an issue, there are interviews I do where we’re supporting the same legislation, and I think those are useful to see that we are not angry with each other. We have disagreements.”
He says that when speaking with politicians in Washington, legislators try to avoid hot button issues in which they have opposing views.
