PALESTINE, Texas (KETK)– On Wednesday night, the Palestine community joined together to honor the life of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Regan park with whispers of prayer and words of encouragement.

The community joined together to remember the words and life of Charlie Kirk, who was killed just one week ago.

“When he was taken, I felt like something really precious was taken from me, and just coming out here gives me hope,” Palestine resident Michael Gongre said.

Mourning with her neighbors, Palestine resident Beverly Slater said she’s thankful to be surrounded by her community and hopes people take a message of love away from this meeting.

“I don’t want my grandchildren growing up in a country that’s violent and can’t share opinions with someone different, that’s not love,” Slater said.

Event organizers noted that this was an opportunity for East Texas believers to come together in reflection and prayer.

“We just wanted to honor him in that passing, and as a community, we want to pray for him, and we want to be his voice now,” candlelight vigil organizer Kayla Donner said.

In hopes that as a country, we can come together stronger and more unified.
