Police increase patrols after parent reports possible gun at bus stop, CMS says

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Families at Myers Park Traditional Elementary were notified Thursday following a concerning report near one of the school’s bus stops.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, a parent reported seeing an unknown person who allegedly had a gun near students waiting for the school bus on Thursday morning.

Interim Principal Anderson shared the following message with families:

“Good afternoon Myers Park Traditional families,
This is Interim Principal Anderson reaching out to inform you that this morning, while students were waiting at one of our bus stops, a parent reported that an unknown person standing nearby allegedly had a gun. This was reported to law enforcement, who quickly responded to the scene. No armed subjects were located in the area. Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement will be patrolling the bus stops to ensure the safe transport of students.”

CMS said that the safety of students and staff remains the district’s top priority and encouraged parents and students to speak up if they see anything suspicious.

“We know that hearing this news is concerning. Therefore, we have counseling services available for any student or staff member, as needed,” Anderson wrote.

CMS confirmed that no weapon or suspect was found. Additional patrols will continue in the area as a precaution, they said.
