North Carolina man to be extradited to Calcasieu Parish on underage sex charges

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KLFY) — A North Carolina man arrested by U.S. Marshals and charged with having sex with a 15-year-old Lake Charles girl will be extradited to Calcasieu Parish, authorities said.

Benjamin Kacan, 29, of Charlotte, North Carolina, is charged with three counts of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and one count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor.

Lake Charles police were dispatched at approximately 2:10 a.m. April 27 to a residence in reference to a missing 15-year-old girl. While officers were on scene, the girl returned home and said she was with Kacan, authorities said.

Detectives said Kacan had befriended the girl on social media and flew to Houston, Texas, then traveled to Lake Charles. He rented rooms at a local hotel and an Airbnb. While in Lake Charles, Kacan had sexual contact with the girl, officials said.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant, which was submitted to the U.S. Marshals to execute an arrest.

U.S. Marshals located Kacan on July 28 in an apartment just outside Charlotte, where Kacan attempted to evade arrest by jumping from his apartment’s third-floor balcony. He was quickly apprehended without further incident, authorities said.

Kacan was booked in the local County Jail and contested extradition on two occasions. The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office prepared a Governor’s Warrant for extradition. Kacan later waived extradition and will be transported to Calcasieu Correctional Center, where he will be held without bond.
