ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Nominations for this year’s Golden Apple Award are now open, with the deadline set for October 16th.

Today, volunteers delivered fresh apples to teachers at 150 schools across Winnebago and Boone counties, courtesy of a donation from Schnucks.

“Golden Apple Foundation is here to recognize area teachers, and also to empower them with resources in the classroom,” said Jennifer Stark, executive director of the Golden Apple Foundation.

The Golden Apple Foundation aims to support educators by providing resources and recognition. Recently, the foundation received 230 applications from teachers seeking funds for classroom resources.

Nominees must complete a portfolio to be considered among the 20 finalists.
