Ky. middle school football game parking lot altercation with gun sparks investigation
Powell County Superintendent Sarah Wasson said she was made aware of the exchange the following day by the Morgan County superintendent, and an investigation was immediately opened.
According to Wasson, during the football game, a fan of their opponent “exchanged words” with a Powell County volunteer. The fan proceeded to wait outside the gate at the end of the night until a Powell County player exited and “had some words.”
She wrote that as both parties were leaving, there was an incident in the parking lot during which the Morgan County fan allegedly showed their gun.
The Morgan County superintendent assured Wasson that his district does not support this type of behavior and would assist in their investigation. The school police chief is reportedly leading the investigation and is working with the Stanton City Police to investigate the incident.
The Morgan County superintendent released the following statement on Thursday, Sept. 18.
According to the Powell County school officials, the appropriate charges will be filed.
“We can’t communicate further about this incident, but want our community to know this type of behavior will not be tolerated,” Wasson wrote. “We also want to thank the Morgan County School District and Superintendent for bringing this to our attention and for his support to ensure our athletic programs are focused on students growing as athletes and are safe environments for players, fans, and our communities.”
