Hold lifted at East Ridge High School following discovery of knife in student’s backpack

East Ridge High School was placed on a brief hold on Wednesday morning after a student brought a knife to school.

A spokesperson for South Washington County Schools sent a message to students’ families around 11:30 a.m., reporting that all students are safe after a student was reported to have a weapon and the school entered a hold.

A subsequent message from the district states that Woodbury police and an agent with a firearm detection dog from the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) Bureau were called to the school to investigate.

A seven-inch, fixed-blade knife was found in a student’s backpack, according to the district, which added that no threats were made and no one was injured.

“This incident caused a significant disruption to our school day and we are grateful for the cooperation of our students, staff and families. We are also thankful for our partnership with the Woodbury Police Department for their immediate action to support our school today with resources to assist in our investigation,” the district spokesperson added.
