Halliday Brothers to Present Free Film ‘Refractions: Dark Side of the Moon Revisited’ at MCPL
Written from press release
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A reimagined take on one of rock’s most iconic albums will be showcased later this month at the Monroe County Public Library.
On Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m., brothers Jason and Jim Halliday will present Refractions: Dark Side of the Moon Revisited, a 45-minute film that pairs their new interpretation of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon with original visual elements. The free showing will take place in the library’s auditorium and is open to the public.
The Halliday brothers collaborated remotely, trading drafts and ideas between their two home studios hundreds of miles apart. Both men have strong musical backgrounds but now work in technology, pursuing music as a passion rather than a profession. Jason is an accomplished banjo player, while Jim is a pianist, and both bring experience in electronic music production. The result blends acoustic and electronic sounds while putting their own spin on the classic album.
Some tracks stay close to the original compositions, while others diverge sharply in tone, instrumentation, and feeling. The brothers also layered the music with visuals ranging from newly shot video footage and vintage home movies to 2D and 3D fractal imagery and AI-assisted techniques. Jason, an established visual artist with work exhibited internationally, created much of the imagery and maintains a large online following for his art and music.
The project, developed over several months, highlights the brothers’ creativity and ability to collaborate across distance.
