Four arrested in Steele Creek shooting that killed 4-year-old boy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Four suspects have been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a 4-year-old boy Wednesday morning in Steele Creek.

“I just want to stress the gravity of the situation that a four-year-old child has died over a car, over a stolen car,” said CMPD Major Ryan Kendall at a news conference Thursday.

Hearts are heavy over the loss of four-year-old Jayce Edwards, but neighbors are feeling relieved that four suspects have now been arrested and charged with murder.

“I think that’s good news, I just hope that justice will prevail all the way through,” said neighbor Jack Greiner.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say Wednesday morning, around 6 a.m., someone at the home of the four-year-old saw the suspects trying to steal a car in the parking lot of the townhomes on Cigar Court.

Police say the suspects then just started firing into the home, shooting and killing four-year-old Jayce.

“This has deeply shaken the community and the officers that had to respond to that incident,” said Kendall.

A manhunt got underway in southwest Charlotte.

Police got information that the suspects may have been in a white Jeep Cherokee.

They found that car, tried to pull them over, and got into a chase that ended on Duval Drive.

Then there was a standoff and barricade situation for hours until police arrested 24-year-old Marquise Guerrier, 20-year-old Angelo Hudson, and 23-year-old Jordon Davis.

Police say 18-year-old Anthony Abel got away and fled to Raleigh, and was arrested Thursday.

“Every one of these offenders have had some prior contact with law enforcement. And that’s unfortunately, sometimes the challenge we have to face is with people who are repeat offenders. And it’s our responsibility to keep making those arrests and we do our part and hope the justice system can do their part,” said Kendall.
