CHICAGO — A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed Thursday morning on the West Side.

Police believe a Chevy sedan, driven by a woman, was traveling westbound just after 7:40 a.m. on Walton when the vehicle struck a 9-year-old boy, who was in the street.

The boy was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital.

A parent told WGN News the boy was a student was at McNair Elementary school.

They said there was not a crossing guard in the area at the time.

The driver was taken into custody, but other details are not available at this time.

The Major Accidents Unit is investigating, according to CPD.
