14-year-old shot, killed at Muncie apartment complex; 15-year-old detained

MUNCIE, Ind. — A 14-year-old is dead and a 15-year-old is in custody after a reported shooting inside a Muncie apartment on Thursday.

According to the Muncie Police Department, officers responded to the 400 block of E. Gilbert Street after receiving a call of a possible shooting. MPD said officers and EMS arrived on the scene and discovered a 14-year-old female suffering from a reported gunshot wound. The victim later died at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Police soon detained a 15-year-old male while investigating. MPD confirmed he faces preliminary charges of reckless homicide, dangerous possession of a firearm, pointing a firearm and theft of a firearm. He is currently being detained at the Delaware County Detention Center.
