ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Tyreece Armstrong, 20, was among a group of people police spotted walking down the middle of a roadway Tuesday night. He was arrested on weapons charges after he ran and was chased by officers.

According to Rockford Police, around 8 p.m., officers with the Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team observed the group in the road near Arthur Avenue and Oakley Avenue.

When they approached to speak with the group, the police said Armstrong ran off.

A foot chase ensued, and Armstrong was taken into custody after authorities said a loaded handgun was found.

He was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.

Armstrong was booked into the Winnebago County Jail pending the outcome of a pretrial detention hearing.
