Northeast Arkansas man arrested for breaking into storage units, had meth hidden in underwear

A Northeast Arkansas man has been arrested for breaking into a storage unit and stealing items, and during the traffic stop when he was arrested, he apparently tried to hide his drugs because they were found in his underwear when he got to the jail. Facing multiple charges is 37-year-old David Neal Simmons of Rector.

According to an incident report and a probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Simmons Thursday morning. It was determined Simmons, and a passenger in his truck, Greg Garreans, were both wanted by the sheriff’s office. They were both taken into custody without incident.

During a search of the truck, deputies found numerous items that were reportedly stolen from the storage unit including catalytic converters, a Dremel tool with attachments, a bucket full of copper wiring, a laptop computer, a tablet, tools and a keychain with several master lock keys.

The same deputy that made the traffic stop had seen Simmons at the storage unit several nights prior while he was on another traffic stop.

When they arrived at the Baxter County Detention Center, the deputy asked if either man had anything illegal on them. Simmons admitted to having methamphetamine and a meth pipe in his underwear.

After further investigation, it was determined Garreans was not with Simmons at the time of the thefts from the storage unit. He was released from custody and his charges were dropped.

Simmons is facing two charges each of theft of property and breaking or entering along with one charge each of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $17,500.
