Last week, a staff member at the University of Mississippi was fired after “insensitive comments” on social media regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump who played an influential role in rallying young Republican voters. Kirk was scheduled to speak at the University of Mississippi in October.
Since Kirk’s death, teachers, firefighters, elected officials and even a cable news contributor have lost their jobs or are under investigation after comments they made about his assassination.
Kirk was shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. He was taken to the hospital where he died. A suspect was later arrested in the case.
