MCKINNEY, TX (KDAF) – There’s a therapeutic horse riding center in McKinney that has classes for veterans, first responders and people with disabilities.

ManeGait has 150 clients a week on horseback. To make that possible, it takes 29 horses and lots of volunteers. They also have a mental health program where a licensed counselor will work with the client and horse. They also have a brain building program.

For the participants, physically just sitting on a horse is beneficial for those with tight muscles, spasms, core strength issues and more. For those on the spectrum, it helps them develop social skills and provides interaction. The CEO and president says many families have told her this is the only therapy that works for their children.

They’re also expanding, hoping to be able to serve the 400 people on the waitlist. That will take about 600 volunteers a week. To find out more, click here.
