Kentucky drug task force destroys $32K in marijuana crops

FRANKLIN, Ky. (WKRN) — In Southern Kentucky, officials used a different approach to crack down on drugs.

The South-Central Kentucky Drug Task Force recently deployed a drone to conduct an aerial survey of an area on Minnicks Johnson Road in the Price Mills community, located in Simpson County, about 45 miles north of Nashville.

LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:

A team of full-time agents said the drone helped them discover concealed plots with sixteen marijuana plants worth an estimated street value of approximately $32,000.

“It is a common tactic for illicit growers to intermingle small plots of marijuana within cornfields in an attempt to conceal the plants from view and reduce the likelihood of detection,” the South-Central Kentucky Drug Task Force said. “Often, growers will spread out these small plots across multiple fields to further decrease the risk of discovery, oftentimes destroying part of the cornfield.”

The Drug Task Force said the marijuana plants were seized, cut and destroyed, which is standard procedure.

Agents told News 2 they’re continuing to investigate the source of the grow. No arrests have been made at this time.
