Gov. Jeff Landry supports bringing National Guard troops to Louisiana to fight crime

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A report indicates 1,000 troops could be coming to help fight crime in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, much like the deployment in Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles.

When asked if he’s worried that National Guard troops would militarize the streets in Louisiana, Gov. Jeff Landry said they’re already in a warzone.

“Look, the streets of our cities are already a warzone. It’s because of democratic leadership out here. We’ve seen Soros infected money poured into our criminal justice system… those fruits are getting ripe, and people are dying because of it,” Landry said.

Congressman Troy Carter (D-La.) is against any calls for the National Guard to patrol the streets of New Orleans. He said there is no emergency warranting military involvement on city streets. Attorney General Liz Murrill said she is “happy to work with State and federal law enforcement to ensure we can see these cases through and make our communities safer.”
