‘Betrayal’: Sheriff McFadden addresses recent staff departures
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said 65-year-old Meta Howze King was struck and killed just after 3 p.m. on September 15, near the 1200 block of Clanton Road.
Officers arrived to find King unresponsive in the road. She was taken to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to CMPD, the vehicle involved was a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado that was pulling a trailer. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police said he was screened and not found to be impaired at the time of the crash.
Investigators said impairment is not suspected on King’s part either, though toxicology results are still pending. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search team are continuing to gather information about what may have led to the collision. So far, no charges have been announced, and the investigation remains active.
King’s family has been notified of her passing.
