DC police officer arrested for assault, DUI in Virginia: court documents

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) — A D.C. police officer is on administrative leave after he was arrested for driving under the influence and assaulting officers in Alexandria, Va., on Sunday, according to court documents.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) tells DC News Now that 30-year-old officer Trevon King was assigned to the Fourth District with five years on the force, is now on administrative leave as an internal investigation is underway.

Officers with the Alexandria Police Department (APD) responded to a crash on Russell Road at around 8:15 p.m. on Sunday. Court documents said officers smelled an odor of alcohol coming from King, whose car had crashed into a telephone pole and a parked vehicle on the street.

Howard Hay said he owns the car King allegedly struck and totaled, and he used to work as a police officer himself. He said the situation immediately set off alarm bells for him.

“I asked him, ‘Did you have anything to drink tonight?’ He kept on denying it, but the whole time, he’s really unsteady on his feet,” Hay said.

Court documents said King identified himself as a “DUI officer with MPD” multiple times during his interactions with police at the scene. Officers noted he did not perform well during several field sobriety tests.

Hay said he heard King’s interactions with police at the scene.

“He starts getting upset like, I’m a cop, you know? Why are you doing this to me? I’m going to lose my job,’” Hay said.

Officer statements in court documents said King resisted arrest at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital. APD said that’s where he tried to grab an officer’s weapon, told officers to kiss him and tried to grope an officer’s genitals.

“Being a police officer, why would you do that? That makes no sense. Going after the weapon? If you’re going to have a weapon, you’re going to be using it. That’s kind of scary,” Hay said.

Officers said King also made statements at the hospital and at the detention center, allegedly saying “I drank driving, i shouldn’t have done it,” along with I’m drunk, not gonna lie,” and “I’m drunk.”

Online court records show King is due in court for an arraignment hearing next week.
