Convenience store robbery suspect caught in Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — The suspect in a pair of convenience store robberies has been arrested in Beloit, authorities said Wednesday.

Carl Thompson, 44, was arrested and charged with two counts of robbery with the use of force.

Beloit Police said on Tuesday at 8:39 p.m., Thompson robbed a store in the 100 block of Liberty Avenue by implying he had a weapon.

Then, early Wednesday at 7:22 a.m., police said Thompson struck again, robbing a store in the 1100 block of Liberty Avenue, and threatening to shoot the clerk.

Officers responded to the scene quickly enough to get a lead on Thompson’s vehicle and tracked him to the 900 block of Elm Street, where he was later taken into custody during the execution of a search warrant.

Police said Thompson is currently on parole for previous robbery convictions.

Authorities said no one was injured during the crimes.
