In a news release, the Church said that “plans are being finalized” to rebuild the Missionary Training Center (MTC) cafeteria and administrative buildings, but there is no word yet on when that work will begin.
Two new buildings “that will enhance the missionary experience” have been designed, and the existing cafeteria and administration buildings will be demolished to make way for the new buildings. This project will take multiple years, but the Church said that the MTC will remain “fully operational” throughout.
The Provo MTC has been in use for nearly 50 years since it opened in 1978, training “hundreds of thousands” of missionaries in that time, according to the Church. It is one of 11 missionary training centers that the church operates across the world, and it is the only one in the United States.

The MTC in Provo also trains missionaries in the most languages of any MTC in the world, with more than 50 languages being taught. Missionaries stay at the MTC for three weeks if they’re not learning a foreign language, and for up to nine weeks if they are.
“These new facilities will provide an improved environment for learning, growth, and spiritual preparation, blessing future generations of missionaries as they begin their service,” the Church wrote in a news release.
