Members of the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team (WCSART) posted on Facebook that their own crews, along with Powell and Lee County rescue team members, responded to a 911 call from a woman and a man she’d been hiking with.
“The initial report was that she was stuck on a cliff ledge, but further investigation showed that the duo was lost, off trail, scrambled down about 10 feet, and were unable to climb up,” rescue officials wrote.
Rescue officials said members of the team set up a low-angle rope system, with each hiker in their own harness, to raise them both to safety.
Rescuers commended the pair for calling for help and bringing essentials like food, water, and backup batteries, while offering the advice to use navigation tools like Gaia GPS or CalTopo for their next hike.
“We are so glad everyone got out safely and thank our friends from Powell and Lee counties for working together on a successful rescue,” WCSART wrote.
