SPAR announces new parking lot improvements, alternate parking

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The City of Shreveport’s Parks and Recreation Department (SPAR) announced two parking lot improvement projects that will soon be underway.

The Cross Lake Boat Launch parking lot will be closed from September 22nd to September 29th for resurfacing and improvement work. Alternative launch sites at the lake are listed as:

  • Melvin’s Landing
  • Barron’s Landing & Marina
  • Ark-La-Tex Landing
  • Johnson’s Fishing Camp
  • Shreveport Yacht Club
  • Municipal Pier and Boat Launch (only free option, others have a small fee)

Director of SPAR Shelly Ragle, speaks on the improvements to “We know how much our community loves Cross Lake, and these improvements will provide a safer, smoother, and more welcoming parking area for years to come.”

In addition to the launch areas, work will begin the week of Sept. 15, 2025, on the Southern Hills Recreation Center lower parking lot near the tennis courts. Final resurfacing and improvements are scheduled to begin the first week of October.

The new lot will aim to make the Southern Hills Recreation Center more accessible for families, tennis players, and community members who use the facility daily.

“These are exactly the kinds of projects our residents want to see,” said Mayor Tom Arceneaux. “Your tax dollars are at work making our parks, recreation centers, and public spaces safer, more modern, and more enjoyable for everyone.”

The department says the upgrades reflect the City’s commitment to listening to residents and reinvesting tax dollars into the facilities and spaces our community enjoys every day.
