September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month

September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and there are several ways to make an impact and get involved in the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley area.

One event, the Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run, is back this year, returning in-person for the first time since 2019.

Rev. Zemoria Brandon, administrator of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America: Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter, visits the PHL17 studio with Syreeta Wright, who recently published a children’s book about growing up with Sickle Cell disease.
