Recall vote Tuesday for SF Supervisor Joel Engardio
Tuesday’s vote stems from the supervisor’s endorsement of Proposition K, which shut down a portion of the Great Highway and led to the creation of Sunset Dunes Park in its place.
More than 46,000 voters live in District 4, according to the census. More than 10,000 of them signed the petition to make Tuesday’s recall election happen.
Supporters of Prop K say closing the highway makes it safer for pedestrians. Opponents argue that cutting off the main access to their neighborhood clogs up their streets and complicates their commute.
“I’m being recalled because I supported the democratic process of letting the people have a say about what to do with their coast,” Engardio said. “And the coast does belong to everyone.”
If voters approve of recalling Engardio, Supervisor Connie Chan tells KRON4 that she will introduce a bill to reopen the Great Highway.
Polls will close at 8 p.m.
