Protective order filed for Erika Kirk ahead of trial, American Comeback tour to continue at USU

OREM, Utah (ABC4) — The Fourth District Court in Utah has issued a pretrial protective order for Erika Kirk after Tyler Robinson has been formally charged.

According to Utah Code 78B-7-803, pretrial protective orders are standard for family members of victims and allows for any relief or provisions that prevents communication from the alleged perpetrator towards the victim or their family.

Charlie Kirk’s alleged shooter, Tyler Robinson, had his preliminary hearing and was formally charged with aggravated murder today. After he was arrested, Charlie’s wife Erika Kirk publicly commented for the first time since her husband’s death.

Erika Kirk directed comments towards her husband’s shooter and said, “You have no idea the fire you ignited under his wife,”

She also said that Turning Point USA will continue with its American Comeback Tour. One of the stops will be Utah State University, which is scheduled for September 30th.

Amanda DeRito, Associate Vice President for Strategic Communications at USU, said that the school is taking several security measures and the event will take place at in the evening at an indoor venue.

“With respect to the original events Turning Point USA had scheduled on our campus, USU Public Safety began planning immediately upon notification that one of our student clubs had extended the invitation to them,” DeRito said.

DeRito said that USU will work with the student club, TPUSA, and local, state, and federal officials to ensure that those in attendance remain safe. She also said the following:

USU works diligently to protect the safety of our community and has a robust plan that is evaluated routinely. Even during times without heightened safety concerns, Utah State’s Department of Public Safety collaborates with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure security measures at campus events are planned and staffed according to industry best practices, including a thorough comprehensive threat assessment, detailed security planning, deployment of a diverse array of security assets, effective crowd management, close protection for the speaker, clear communication and coordination, and readiness for crisis response.”

Additionally, DeRito said that USU consistently tests security systems on campus.
