Monday: Lake breezes help produce 16-degree temperature spread across area

High temperatures reached the summery 80s for the fourth time in the past five days across a large part of the metro area.

There were a few exceptions though, especially if you live close to Lake Michigan. Persistent onshore easterly breezes continue to set up a large temperature range across the area.

The warmest inland locations, places such as Geneva, Streator, Herscher and Peru, all topped the 90 degree mark while cooling breezes off the lake provided free air conditioning for areas close to Lake Michigan.

Among the cooler highs: 75 degrees at Lake Forest and 76 degrees at Lincoln Park. 

Monday logged 100% of the day’s possible sunshine, continuing the sunnier than normal trend for the month. 

Updated 80-degree tally for 2025 

We continue to inch closer to the normal number of annual 80s officially at O’Hare. Monday marked the 75^th time this year temperatures have been at or above 80 degrees.   

Monday allergy report

No relief in sight for hay fever sufferers as the ragweed pollen has now been at the high level for a month straight and continues one of the more severe allergy seasons in at least 7 years.
