Dallas (KDAF) — When Professor David Jacinto opened Los Jacinto Jiujitsu Academy just more than a year ago, he had more than martial arts in mind. For him, it was about creating a place where people of all ages could grow in confidence, discipline and community.

“Jiujitsu is for everyone,” said Jacinto, owner and head instructor of the Oak Cliff-based gym.

“It’s not just a sport, it’s a lifelong tool for self-defense, discipline and personal growth, no matter your age or experience level.”

Jacinto’s journey began at home. His two sons started training in jiujitsu when they were young, and soon after, he joined them on the mats. Nine years later, he earned his black belt, and today he’s sharing that passion with the wider community.

The academy offers classes for students as young as four years old, with separate sessions for different age groups. There’s also a women’s-only class on Saturday mornings.

Jacinto said the gym is more than just a place to train.

“Our academy is built on a culture of support and respect,” he said.

“No matter your age, background or skill level, everyone here feels welcomed, challenged and inspired. It’s a place where people come together to grow, not just as athletes but as individuals.”

The kids’ program is one of Jacinto’s biggest points of pride.

“Jiujitsu teaches discipline, respect and emotional control early on, giving kids lifelong tools for success,” he said. “I’ve seen firsthand how it shaped my own sons’ character, confidence and work ethic, and I’m proud to offer that same foundation to all our young students.”

For Jacinto, opening the academy is proof of what passion and persistence can accomplish.

“Anything is possible with consistency,” he said.

“Jiujitsu has given so much to me and my family, and now I’m able to give back by helping others grow through it.”

Los Jacinto Jiujitsu Academy is located at 2419 W. Kiest Blvd in Dallas.
