Grolee Elementary students receive first aid kits to encourage school safety

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — Grolee Elementary students are receiving first aid kits thanks to a partnership between St. Landry Parish Councilman Jody White and Acadian Ambulance, aimed at enhancing safety in schools.

The initiative, which involves distributing first aid kits to students, is a collaborative effort to ensure that schools are better equipped to handle minor injuries and health issues. The program is part of a broader plan to provide these kits across the parish each semester.

“These kits will help keep them safe and allow the teachers and staff to take care of them and get them back to their day,” said Adam Olivier of Acadian Ambulance.

White emphasized the importance of having first aid kits readily available in schools, noting the need for such resources in case of accidents. He also mentioned plans to continue distributing kits to students across the parish each semester, with the support of his fellow council members and Acadian Ambulance.

The initiative reflects a commitment to community safety and support, with Acadian Ambulance playing a key role in assessing the frequency and logistics of the distribution.

Principal Angela Thomas highlighted the reliance of public schools on community support, expressing gratitude for the donations that help address everyday health concerns among young students.

“And especially our little ones. At this age, we all know Band-Aids cure everything. So, it’s going to be for wounds, but it’s also going to be for stomach aches and headaches,” said Thomas.
