“Because at the end of the day, they are life learners,” Northcutt says. “And we have to teach them and prepare them for tomorrow.”
That means giving them the skills they will need to figure things out on their own.
“They’re going to be problem solvers and they need to have confidence in themselves. And by giving them that little independence, it builds on that confidence.”
The school year is young, but Mrs. Northcutt has already seen so much progress.
“In this short amount of time, I’ve seen students using the learned skill, and when they are able to read a hard word, they get super excited, which shows that they are learning and that they can do things.”
Way to go Yuly Northcutt. A teacher, mother-figure, colleague and friend.
“Just knowing that I can make a difference,” she says. “And knowing they can take these skills and apply them for the rest of their lives. That’s what fulfills me inside.”
