WGN-TV has confirmed with family that the victims were a mother and her two children.
Police say the first body, a baby girl, was discovered just before 11:30 a.m. near 57th Street Beach in Woodlawn, in the 5700 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive. According to police, the female infant was pronounced dead on the scene shortly after divers pulled her from the water.
Rescue attempts were conducted by multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard.
WGN-TV then learned that first responders recovered a second and third body in nearby waters Saturday, with witnesses watching as the situation unfolded. A 31-year-old woman was pulled out of the water near 63rd Street, and divers also pulled a 6-year-old boy out of the water near the 63rd St. Beach.
Neither survived.
On Saturday evening, police told WGN-TV that all three incidents appear to be related and likely stem from a domestic dispute.
“It just hits close to home,” said a man named Ronald, who declined to give his last name.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the three victims. Autopsy results are still pending.
