CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — One Coastal Carolina University employee has been dismissed and another has been suspended without pay in light of a social media post made about the Charlie Kirk assassination, the university said Tuesday in a statement.

“Coastal Carolina University has received reports of social media content posted by University employees and individuals not employed by the University,” the statement reads. “Based on these reports and in accordance with applicable University policy, one employee has been dismissed, effective immediately, and another has been suspended without pay, pending further review. No additional details are available at this time, as these are personnel matters.”

“CCU is committed to upholding our institutional values as we continue to pursue our core mission of supporting student success with the highest standards of integrity and accountability,” the school continued.

South Carolina Rep. Russell Fry, whose district includes Horry County, took to social media Monday afternoon in response to an alleged post by a CCU employee.

“Justification of this act on ANY LEVEL is unacceptable,” Fry’s post reads.
