LAFAYETTE, La (
KLFY) – The Courtney Granger Memorial Award will host a special fundraising concert on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at The Sidecar in Lafayette.
The Courtney Granger Memorial Award, was established in 2021 to honor the life and legacy of beloved fiddler and vocalist Courtney Granger. The award was created following Courtney’s passing, with funding provided through the community that initially helped cover his funeral costs.
Since then, the award has continued to support young traditional Louisiana musicians, reflecting Courtney’s commitment to Cajun and Creole music, says Kenneth Granger, Courtney’s father and co-chair of the award committee.
The benefit concert will feature Courtney’s longtime band, the Pine Leaf Boys, alongside a
lineup of special guests including Wayne Toups, Dustin Sonnier, Freddie Pate, Steve Riley, Christine Balfa, and Julie Williams.
The evening will spotlight past and current award recipients, including Cathryn Hanks, Elise Riley, and Ethan Moody.
“Courtney’s music touched countless lives, and this award helps ensure that his spirit and dedication to tradition live on,” said Granger, “we invite the community to join us in building the award’s reach and impact.”
Held on the Wednesday before Festival Acadiens et Créoles—a festival that Courtney cherished as a way to gather with friends and family—the event promises to be both a heartfelt celebration and a powerful continuation of his legacy
