The house, which was unoccupied, was located at 46227 Tower Circle Road in Buxton. According to Seashore officials, it is the 12th house to collapse on their beaches in the last five years.
Beachgoers are urged to avoid the area and stay out of the water due to debris from the destroyed structure.
“A pre-existing beach safety closure from the north end of Buxton to around off-road vehicle ramp 43 may need to be expanded, depending on the extent of the debris field,” Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials said in a release. “Visitors should also avoid the north end of Rodanthe due to the presence of threatened oceanfront structures.”
The Tower Circle Road home in Buxton is the first one to collapse in 2025. Six homes, all in Rodanthe, collapsed in 2024, with three of them falling in the span of less than a week last September. More info on threatened oceanfront structures and the timeline of all that have fallen since 2020 can be found on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
