CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A driver was trapped in an SUV after police say they ran a stop sign and caused a crash on FM 18 in Callahan County Monday morning.

The incident happened on FM 18 near the intersection of FM 18 and Elmdale Road around 10:30 a.m.

Police at the scene told KTAB and KRBC and SUV traveling south down Elmdale Road ran a stop sign at the intersection and was hit by a pickup truck hauling a trailer with heavy equipment that was traveling west down FM 18.

During the collision, the SUV became stuck to the truck and was drug into a nearby yard, where it hit a tree.

First responders had to extricate the driver of the SUV from their vehicle, and they are now hospitalized with serious injuries. This driver has been identified as a 24-year-old from Temple, Texas.

Both occupants of the pickup received minor injuries.

No further information is available at this time.
