Michael McCaul won’t seek reelection after 11 terms in Congress

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Longtime U.S. House Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, announced Sunday morning he will not run for reelection in 2026. McCaul has served in Congress for 11 terms, representing Texas in the U.S. House since 2005.

McCaul represents Texas’ 10th Congressional district, which covers parts of Leander and Cedar Park in Central Texas. The district expands east toward College Station and some western Houston suburbs.

McCaul made his decision public Sunday morning on This Week ABC, and released an additional statement on social media.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to represent the people of central Texas and to chair the prestigious Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees. My father’s service in World War II inspired me to pursue a life of public service, with a focus on defending our great nation against global threats, and I have been proud to carry out that mission in Congress for more than two decades,” McCaul said in a statement.

McCaul added that his post-Congress plans will remain focused on national policy, writing that he will continue “to serve my country in the national security and foreign policy realm.
