Heat ‘flirting with 100 degrees’ Tuesday inland

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Mother Nature is turning up the heat for the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the next 48 hours, high temperatures are forecast to rise close to 100 degrees for some inland areas.

“As high pressure builds northward, we are going to see that hot weather pushing out toward the coast. We will remain hot into tomorrow and Wednesday, with (Tuesday) itself being the very hottest day — some daytime highs flirting with 100 degrees,” KRON4 Meteorologist John Shrable said.

Above-seasonal average temperatures will be comfortable along the coast with highs in the 70s. By the bay, highs will hang in the 80s. Inland areas will be roasting as temperatures peak in the upper 90s, Shrable said.

On Tuesday afternoon, temperatures will spike to 97 degrees in Concord and Livermore, 93 degrees in Santa Rosa and Cloverdale, and 92 in San Jose. Highs will peak at 75 degrees in San Francisco, and 85 degrees in Oakland.

The National Weather Service Bay Area said overnight temperatures will bring relief. “Overnight lows will range from the upper 50s to mid-60s, both along the coast and in inland valleys. Higher elevations will struggle to drop below 70,” NWS wrote.

After Wednesday, “expect much more seasonably warm temperatures for the rest of the week,” Shrable said.

“This is our last full week of summer,” KRON4 Meteorologist Kathy Trafton noted. Autumnal equinox will begin on September 22.
