CHICAGO (WGN) — A dead rat and a note with “derogatory statements” were found outside a Chicago alderman’s office on Sunday evening.

Chicago police officers responded to a call for service in the 5600 block of North Western Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a deceased rat and a typed note outside Alderman Andre Vasquez’s office.

The note, found taped outside the alderman’s door, reads: “Move the illegals and the rats out of the 40th Ward. They are both vermin! Support ICE! This will get illegals out of our country and lower our taxes.”

Ald. Vasquez did not seem surprised by what’s happened outside of his office, but he’s calling for calmer voices to prevail.

“Yesterday, before this, I was at the Mexican Independence Day Parade. We had more people come out, then I’ve seen, who aren’t Mexican. We had 40th Ward neighbors coming out. We had neighbors across the city in support for the folks who were not able to because they were afraid. It was a beautiful and powerful event. This incident does not diminish or take about from that, which I think is more representative of what our city is and who we are,” said Ald. Vasquez.

No offenders are in custody. Area Three Detectives are investigating.
