GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — One person is dead and another is in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle Friday morning in Goldsboro.

According to the Goldsboro Police Department, officers reported to a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians around 10 a.m. on the 1500 block of South John Street.

Upon arrival, officers said they found a man and a woman both in wheelchairs with injuries resulting from being hit by the vehicle on the two-lane road.

Emergency responders pronounced 45-year-old Cheniko Pugh dead at the scene and transported the male pedestrian to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Officers said they determined in their investigation that the driver of the vehicle was traveling north on John Street when she struck the two people. “Impairment was found not to be a factor in this crash,” officers said.

According to a social media post, officers closed John Street between Littleton Place and Shamrock Avenue for nearly 11 hours to investigate the crash and secure the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing. No word yet from officers about any charges filed against the driver as a result of this incident.
